Heist films offer a special kind of thrill and adrenaline—be it watching amateur thieves fumble as their plans go wrong (or even get miraculously lucky just as they’re about to be caught) or admiring criminal masterminds as they show off their wide range of skills, in breaking open locked vaults and running off with the spoils.
Moreover, movies with a heist plot often sparkle with wit, humor, and plenty of quick thinking, even as they keep you guessing, offering a solid dose of engaging entertainment.
So, if you’re planning a fun movie night with friends or a partner, you can’t go wrong with these highly enjoyable heist flicks!
Ocean’s 8

All the Ocean’s movies are grand entertainment, involving an engrossing heist plot, packed with action and suspense, but Ocean’s 8 has a special place in my heart.
Unlike the other films, this one features an all-female crew as they work together to pull off an elaborate heist during the annual Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Starring an ensemble cast—Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter—with each actor playing a memorable character, this Gary Ross-directed film is a refreshing and stylish addition to the heist genre.
The Italian Job

Somewhat inspired by the 1969 British film of the same name, The Italian Job, directed by F. Gary Gary, follows a group of thieves who orchestrate a plan to steal $35 million worth of gold bars from a former double-crossing associate.
The main characters all have convincing motivations, and Gary peppers the sequences with breathless action and enough twists so that you’ll never know what’s coming next. A hugely enjoyable and clever movie.
Baby Driver

If you enjoy both musicals and heist thrillers, Baby Driver will definitely feel like a match made in heaven. Starring Ansel Egort in the lead as the gateway driver and masterfully directed by Edgar Wright, Baby Driver also boasts a killer soundtrack that will make you want to dance along to the thrilling car chase sequences.
Original, wryly funny, and wholly engaging, Baby Driver makes for a very memorable watch.
Drive

A compelling action thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive follows Ryan Gosling as he plays a Hollywood stunt driver who also moonlights as a getaway driver.
Gosling’s character is fond of his neighbor, Irene (Carey Mulligan), and when her debt-ridden husband is released from prison, the two men embark on a dangerous plan to rob a pawn shop—only for it to go disastrously wrong.
The film doesn’t shy away from depicting graphic violence and taking on a rather gritty tone, bolstered by impeccable performances from all the lead actors. If your tastes veer a little towards the arthouse, you’ll love this one.
Catch Me If You Can

You can’t go wrong with a Steven Spielberg film, and the playfully titled Catch Me If You Can promises almost two-and-a-half hours of non-stop entertainment.
The story follows FBI agent Carl, who becomes singularly obsessed with tracking down an elusive con man called Frank, who always seems to get away.
Starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio in charismatic lead roles, the film is actually based on an autobiographical novel by Frank Abagnale Jr., who ostensibly claims to have committed all the frauds detailed within.
Logan Lucky

Steven Soderbergh is a master of crime capers, balancing comedy with thrill and razor-sharp wit as seen in Out of Sight (1998) or the more recent Black Bag (2025).
His heist comedy Logan Lucky features an ensemble cast starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Daniel Craig, among others, and follows the different members of the Logan family as they try to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway while avoiding the FBI and other security personnel.
Carefully assembled and pleasantly charming, Logan Lucky promises a great time at the movies.
Biggest Heist Ever

Of course, we all know that cinema imitates life, and there have been some real-life heists that beat anything we’ve watched on-screen.
One of these includes the case of “Bitcoin Bonnie and Clyde”—a husband and wife duo who recently pleaded guilty to stealing $4.5 billion worth of bitcoin.
Biggest Heist Ever is a Netflix documentary that delves into the details of this case—examining the motivations and personalities of the thieves and how they nearly pulled off the impossible.
