Now, after a long five-year wait, a film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club is premiering on Netflix tomorrow! With a star-studded cast and a renowned production team, it’s sure to be just as much of a hit as the book it’s based on.

Keep reading for everything we know about The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix.

What is The Thursday Murder Club about?

The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of four friends in a retirement community who are fascinated by death and murder mysteries. The group members, who dub themselves “The Thursday Murder Club,” meet each week to discuss unsolved cases.

The club is thrown in over their heads when they find themselves involved in a real murder case. Now they must solve the case that’s landed at their feet, even if it means risking their own lives.

Director Chris Columbus says that “thematically it’s interesting that we’ve got four elderly people who are living in a retirement community and who are fascinated by death and murder. They are facing their own demise, yet at the same time they are obsessed with studying cold cases. I fell in love thematically with that. It’s comedic, but it’s also very emotional.”

Who's in The Thursday Murder Club?

The cast of The Thursday Murder Club is packed with star power! The four members of the title club are as follows:

Helen Mirren as ex-spy Elizabeth, Ben Kingsley as ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, Pierce Brosnan as ex–union activist Ron, and Celia Imrie as ex-nurse Joyce.

Other cast members include Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Jonathan Pryce, and David Tennant.

Speaking about the cast, director Columbus says that "they’re just so incredibly well-prepared, and it’s because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they’ve developed those sorts of muscles.”

Who created The Thursday Murder Club?

The Thursday Murder Club is a collaboration between Netflix and Amblin Partners, a production company founded by Steven Spielberg.

The film was directed by filmmaker Chris Columbus who is known for directing such hits as Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

The screenplay for The Thursday Murder Club was written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. And, of course, thoroughly based on the book by Richard Osman.
