If there’s one thing I cannot get enough of, it’s black comedy dramas. When they’re done right, they can be incredibly insightful, tearing apart social constructs and norms with razor-sharp commentary.

They’re willing to explore the darker side of life, in all its messy forms. And the humor softens the blow just the right amount.

That’s why I was so excited to see a new crime drama with a dark comedy twist come out recently.

If you haven’t caught Apple TV+’s latest show, here is why Your Friends & Neighbors is an absolute must-watch for dark comedy crime fans.

Your Friends & Neighbors

The show centers around Andrew “Coop” Cooper. He’s wealthy and privileged after a career working as a hedge fund manager.

But when he gets fired, he starts stealing from his neighbors to maintain the lifestyle he and his family have become accustomed to.

Of course, not everything is roses in Coop’s life. The long hours he worked backfired when his wife, now his ex, cheated on him.

So, when he loses his job, it’s obvious that he’ll do anything to keep his image and lifestyle intact.

As Coop pushes the bounds of the law farther and the consequences constantly nip at his heels, it becomes an escalating game to see how far he’ll go and what he’ll do to avoid the inevitable consequences.

Where To Watch Your Friends & Neighbors

Right now all nine episodes of Your Friends & Neighbors are streaming on Apple TV+.

The series premiered on April 11, 2025 and has enjoyed high ratings.

The show was renewed for season two, where it was announced that James Marsden will be joining the cast.

Where Is Your Friends & Neighbors Filmed

Westmont Village, the town Coop and his family live in, is fictional. But it was inspired by very real wealthy towns around New York state.

Primarily, it was inspired by Westchester County, which is located in Hudson Valley, where most of the series was filmed.

The country club scenes were filmed at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. The beautiful scenery of the area was captured in various other locations like the coastal town of Rye.

Additional scenes were shot throughout New York City and New Jersey, with several scenes filmed in a studio in Manhattan.

Who Killed Paul in Your Friends & Neighbors (Spoiler!)

If you have yet to watch the show, do yourself a favor and stop reading. The final plot twist is one of the best parts of the series, and one you do not want to spoil.

At the beginning of the show, we see a dead body in the opening, but we don’t know who is dead. We learn in the season finale that the dead body is Paul, estranged husband of Sam, the woman Coop has a very complicated relationship with.

Coop wakes up covered in Paul’s blood, and at first, it appears that he killed Paul. But once Coop learns that Sam has been using a burner phone, he breaks into her house with his housekeeper to see what she’s hiding.

It turns out, he finds evidence that not only did he not kill Paul, but Sam set him up to take the fall for his death.

The truth is, Paul committed suicide, and in order to get his life insurance money, Sam needed to cover up the actual cause of death.

The fact that Sam would ruin Coop’s life sets up a rather interesting premise for season two to explore. After all, Sam didn’t actually commit a crime since she didn’t collect the life insurance money yet, which means both Sam and Coop are free in the end.
