The wonderful thing about mysteries is that there is truly something for everyone. While some people gravitate toward the light and airy world of cozy mysteries, others prefer to skulk around in the muck, taking in the most depraved corners that mysteries have to offer.

If you fall under the latter category, then you've come to the right place!

From a serial killer who kills serial killers to a multi-generational science fiction tale, here are six dark mystery shows you can stream tonight.

Dark

What better way to start than with a show literally called Dark? This sci-fi mystery series is German with English subtitles, but the gripping, eerie tale transcends language.

In the German town of Winden, children start to disappear. In the wake of these tragedies, the tense relationships, double lives, and dark secrets of four of the town's families come to light, exposing a tangled mystery that encompasses four generations.

If you like your mysteries with time travel, parallel worlds, and apocalypses, then you will be hooked on this three-season series.

Mindhunter

Mindhunter takes place in the 1970s and 80, following two FBI agents who expand the realm of criminal science by investigating the psychology behind murder.

As they interview imprisoned serial killers, they find themselves uncomfortably close to very real monsters.

The series was canceled after two seasons for budgetary reasons, but there has been some recent chatter about the potential for a third season.

Sharp Objects

Based on the book of the same name by Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects follows crime reporter Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) as she returns to her hometown to investigate the murders of two young girls. Upon her return, however, Camille is overcome by her own personal demons.

This is an 8-episode limited series.

Dexter

You can't have a dark mystery list without Dexter.

Forensic analyst Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a family man who works for the Miami Metro Police Department by day. Come nighttime, however, he viciously hunts down killers to bring them to their own gruesome ends.

This anti-hero was so popular that his show lasted for eight seasons, with several subsequent spin-offs, including Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and Dexter: Resurrection.

The Fall

Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) is brought on to a publicly upsetting murder case in Northern Ireland that has gone unresolved for a month.

A serial killer, Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan), has been targeting young professional women across Belfast, but the case Stella's team are fighting to build is met with a constant string of complications.

This gripping series has three seasons.

Mare of Easttown

Police detective Marianne "Mare" Sheehan (Kate Winslet) investigates the murder of a teen mom in the suburb of Easttown, Pennsylvania.

But while her past as a basketball star wars with the small town's growing concerns over her detective skills, Mare is warring with several dark personal battles of her own, including divorce, the loss of her son, and a fight for custody of her grandson.
