Elizabeth Peters was the pen name of author Barbara Mertz. She received a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago in 1952 and wrote two non-fiction books on ancient Egypt exploring the daily life of the ancient civilization.

Peters' unique insight and knowledge has kept both books in print to this day, and also sparked her to write the Amelia Peabody historical mystery series. Under the nom-de-plume, chosen to honor each of her children, she published almost forty books.

Besides having strong-willed female characters in mostly unconventional roles, her books are known for being impeccably researched which creates a rich vibrance to the historical aspects of her books.

The Amelia Peabody series ended up being one of her most popular, even becoming an award category of its own at the Malice Domestic Convention, which she also founded. Her books have won numerous awards and continue to find new readers to this day.

If you’re looking to get lost in a series of historical mysteries with a touch of romance and a dash of humor, Elizabeth Peters has something for you. Here are all the books published under Elizabeth Peters in order by series and publication date.
