When it comes to reality TV, The Traitors has certainly taken the world by storm. This game show is similar to social deduction board games like Mafia or Werewolf, where players are divided into two groups, with both sides trying to eliminate the other.
In The Traitors, the format is slightly different—some contestants are secretly “traitors”, seeking to eliminate everyone else to win the grand prize, while the remaining form a band of “faithfuls”, tasked with banishing the traitors and sharing the prize money.
It’s a delicious blend of tricks and treachery, keeping the viewers intrigued and hooked till the final reveal. To make matters more atmospheric, much of the action unfolds within a Gothic castle or manor, evoking a world of feudal ties and classes, where alliances can be broken as easily as they’re forged. At its heart, The Traitors offer a fascinating glimpse into human behavior—and the lengths people will go to win a fortune.
The phenomenon first began in 2021 in the Netherlands with De Verraders, and the format was quickly picked up by other countries with slight variations in gameplay, featuring both celebrity and civilian casts.
Alongside the more prominent UK and US editions, there are several other compelling versions, across various regional languages, that can be easily streamed, with more seasons and versions on the way.

As of the time of publications, several countries such as Argentina, Croatia, Estonia, Indonesia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa and South Korea are all set to have their own versions of this hit reality gameshow, while other nations are slated to premier their new seasons in 2026 and 2027.
There’s even a stage adaptation in the works, directed by Robert Hastie, set to debut in London’s West End in May 2027.
In short, if you can’t get enough of The Traitors, rest assured that you won’t run out of stuff to watch anytime soon!
