Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery first hit Netflix on January 1st of last year. With just six 30-minute episodes, this Italian mystery captured the attention—and hearts—of viewers around the globe. Bringing laughs to the gripping intrigue, the series saw two ill-fated TV technicians stumble upon a murder scene. Fearing their presence at the scene would pin them as suspects, they attempt to clear themselves of suspicion. Unfortunately, their efforts only get them into deeper trouble.
Framed! comes from co-creators Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli. The show is directed by Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone, who also serve as the main protagonists of the series. The chemistry of their on-screen friendship is the heart of the show, building an emotional investment for the audience in the midst of the chaos of crime. Among those supporting Ficarra and Picone are Anna Favella, Tony Sperandeo, Marianna Di Martino, Mary Cipolla, Alessandro Agnello and Sasà Salvaggio.
This series manages to touch on several different themes while still maintaining its vital humor. While at times Framed! focuses on a tragic love story, at other points it commits to diving into the corruption of politics and law enforcement. It even manages to deliver a light version of the Italian Mafia.
