Born in Manhattan in 1946, Jane Stanton Hitchcock used her upper-crust background as material for her bestselling and funny mystery and thriller novels. 

Sadly, Hitchcock passed away on June 23, 2025 at the age of 78. 

Hitchcock's mother Joan Crowley was a renowned 1940s radio star while her adoptive father became rich in automobile importation. 

Hitchcock penned three films and two plays before turning to writing novels in 1992 with the publishing of her first book, Trick of the Eye. 

Her works have been lauded for their satirical portrayal of upper class characters with readers being compelled by her witty dialogue and keen observations of the world in which she was raised.

She rose to prominence as a New York Times-bestselling author and Edgar Award nominee. Her final book, Bluff, won the Dashiell Hammett Prize for Literary Excellence in Crime Writing in 2019.
