The weather's heating up, and so is the tension in the mysteries and thrillers added to streaming services this month. Looking for a classic crime thriller? Some laughs with your intrigue? A personal score taken too far? We've got you covered! Here are the best mystery and thriller movies on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video this May.

Mystery and Thrillers on Netflix

Above Suspicion

Based on a chilling true story—and the true crime book by the same name—this film follows ambitious FBI rookie Mark Putnam (Jack Huston) as he takes up a post in an Appalachian town in Kentucky. After recruiting a drug-addicted local, Susan Smith (Emilia Clarke) as his informant, Putnam soon strikes up an extramarital affair with the woman. As jealousy and betrayal spins the situation out of control, the story barrels towards the first-ever conviction of an F.B.I. Agent for murder.

Léon: The Professional

Currently ranking at #35 on IMDb's top 250 movies, this 1994 is a can't-miss classic. A professional assassin,  Léon (Jean Reno), takes in 12-year-old Mathilda (Natalie Portman) after her family is murdered. The young girl becomes Léon's protégée, taking up his dangerous trade.

The Mother

This Netflix original drops on the streaming service just in time for Mother's Day. A highly skilled assassin (Jennifer Lopez) steps out of hiding to protect the daughter she never met from vengeful criminals. While little else is known about the film, it also stars Gael García Bernal and Joseph Fiennes.

Mystery and Thrillers on Hulu

Black Dynamite

This 2009 action-comedy pays tribute and pokes a bit of fun at the blaxploitation films of the 1970s. Black Dynamite follows the titular CIA agent as he looks to exact revenge on his brother's killer. At the same time, he sets out to rid his neighborhood of a new drug that is part of a far-reaching conspiracy.

Bottle Rocket

This 1996 film was Wes Anderson's feature film directorial debut—as well as the acting debut of both Owen and Luke Wilson. Dignan (Owen) springs his friend Anthony (Luke) from a voluntary psychiatric unit for help with a half-cocked plan. Looping in a third friend, Bob (Robert Musgrave), Dignan's got a vague crime-spree percolating, one that somehow involves his ex-boss...

Speed

Young SWAT officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) goes head to head with terrorist and former bomb squad member Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper). After foiling his plan to hold hostages in an elevator, Traven must prevent an explosion aboard and LA city bus by keeping the vehicle moving above 50mph. Luckily, he has passenger Annie (Sandra Bullock) to help him save the day.

Mystery and Thrillers on Amazon Prime Video

Bound

In this gripping erotic thriller, ex-con Corky (Gina Gershon) and her lover, Violet (Jennifer Tilly) devise a plan to steal millions of dollars from the mob. The best part? They're going to pin it on Violet's gangster boyfriend, Caesar (Joe Pantoliano).

Shutter Island

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island takes supernatural elements and weaves them into a neo-noir narrative. U.S. Marshal Edward “Teddy” Daniels believes he’s sent to investigate a patient named Rachel Solando at Ashecliffe Hospital. But reality soon begins to tear at the seams when Teddy begins to suffer from intense migraines and discovers bizarre notes in his notepad. Nothing is as it seems, and Shutter Island will have you second-guessing every step.

Fatal Attraction

A married man named Daniel (Michael Douglas) has an affair with a publishing editor named Alex (Glenn Close). Daniel believes it was a one-off encounter, yet Alex's obsession with Daniel grows at an alarming rate. Daniel attempts to escape the torment and strain Alex puts on his family, but nothing proves successful in stopping her. Fatal Attraction brilliantly ratchets up the suspense and will demand your attention from beginning to end.
