And she didn't come back to play.

Lisbeth Salander quickly became one of the most beloved—and terrifying—characters in the mystery and thriller world after the 2005 release of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Her stature grew with the 2009 Swedish film adaptations and the 2011 American film based on Larsson's original Millennium trilogy.

In fact, Lisbeth was such a compelling character that even her creator's passing—Larsson passed away in 2004, shortly before the publication of his soon-to-be blockbuster book series—hasn't stopped the badass hacker. David Lagercrantz continued the Millennium series with 2015's The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and now that story is getting an adaptation of its own.

Featuring Claire Foy (The Crown) as Lisbeth Salander and directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), this adaptation looks to lean into the themes of twisted vengeance baked into the Millennium series. The cast of this latest Salander adventure is filled with up-and-coming stars, from Foy herself to Sylvia Heoks (Blade Runner 2049), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Atlanta), and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread).

Despite a controversial filming process which left former star Rooney Mara behind, this trailer promises all of the disturbing revenge schemes we’ve come to love from Lisbeth. And her taste for theatrics certainly remains. Watch as Lisbeth ensnares and tortures a CEO accused of beating up two sex workers, then finds herself embroiled in a far more personal mystery when a woman in red reappears in her life.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will arrive in theaters November 9, 2018.
