Ted Danson’s new comedy has been taking over the internet. And no wonder. With his wry humor and quirky charm, he has perfected playing relatable characters that we can’t help but fall for.
In A Man on the Inside, we meet Charles, a retired professor who finds renewed purpose when he’s asked to infiltrate a San Francisco retirement home to investigate a missing ruby necklace.
What makes the show so addictive is that while it’s warm and humorous, it is brimming with heart. You can’t help but cheer for Charles, and the mystery is also very engaging.
The good news is the show was renewed for a second season. The bad news is you have to wait an entire year to watch it.
In the meantime, here are nine shows like A Man on the Inside that you can binge right now.

Based on a True Story

If you like your crime comedy with a darker twist, Based on a True Story has you covered. Starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, follows a young couple whose lives are falling apart.
But when true crime lover Ava realizes that their plumber might be a serial killer, she and her husband blackmail him into creating a podcast about his “work”.
Too bad working with a killer might cost them more than they ever imagined.
The Afterparty

At a high-school reunion after-party, the rich and immensely disliked host is found murdered. Each episode of this show focuses on each guest, offering their perspective of events leading up to the death.
The second season follows the same anthology format and takes place the day after a wedding.
It’s a creative take on the murder mystery and adds a new layer as each guest experiences their own storyline finding second chances, redemption, or new meaning by the end of their episode.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Though the final season ended a few years ago, this police procedural sitcom is still delivering relevant laughs. It’s another Michael Schur show, which is always a plus when looking to binge similar shows.
And fans of Stephanie Beatriz in Man on the Inside will enjoy her playing a decidedly different role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Upload

When computer programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) dies unexpectedly, he is “uploaded” to Lakeview, a very expensive digital heaven. But it’s not all angels and harps.
He ends up being controlled by his possessive and still very much alive girlfriend, Ingrid (Allegra Edwards). Still, it’s not all bad. His personal customer service rep, Nora (Andy Allo), helps him adjust to his digital afterlife.
But the more she gets to know him, the more she starts to suspect that Nathan’s death might have actually been murder.
High Potential

Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) works as a cleaning lady for the Los Angeles Police Department. She’s also a high-potential intellectual—someone with an IQ over 160.
When she solves a crime thanks for her unconventional way of thinking, she’s offered the opportunity to work as a consultant for the Major Crimes Division of the LAPD.
Making the most of Olson’s quirky charm, the show was recently approved for a second season.
Bad Monkey

Vince Vaughn leads this black comedy show about a former police detective who finds himself working as a health inspector in South Florida.
But when a tourist finds a severed arm, he’s pulled back into his former life as he navigates the greed and corruption that plagues Florida and the Bahamas.
Vaughn delivers with his typical mouthy bravado, giving the show a dark humor that perfectly suits the seedy grit of the tropical criminal underworld.
Where's Wanda?

Desperate to find their missing daughter, Dedo and Carlotta Klatt (Axel Stein and Heike Makatsch) ask their son (Leo Simon) to procure some items from the dark web so they can investigate on their own.
As they spy on their town, they uncover many of their neighbors’ secrets but not a lot of clues about their daughter.
Though this black comedy show is in German, the humor about a couple learning about themselves as they discover way too much about their fellow neighbors is well worth the watch.
