Last month's Fable Book Club pick was a historical mystery of a different age; but this month, we're excited to dive into this cozy, seaside murder mystery set in 1920's Scotland.
Dandy Gilver and a Bothersome Number of Corpses is hailed as an “Agatha Christie meets Upstairs Downstairs…[for] fans of Phryne Fisher and Maisie Dobs” by Publisher's Weekly, as well as a charming story in the vein of Downtown Abbey and Gosford Park.
If you appreciate a cozy historical mystery, this month's pick is right up your alley.
Dandy Gilver and a Bothersome Number of Corpses
In this delightful mystery by Catriona McPherson, witty, aristocratic sleuth Dandy Gilver travels to an all-girls school in the seaside town Portpatrick, Scotland in investigation of what happened to her childhood friend who taught there. But it's not long before Dandy realizes that her missing friend is not the only problem in Portpatrick. Apparently, other teachers have been disappearing at an alarming rate as well.
What is Detective Miss Gilver's plan, you ask? Why, it's to dress up and pass herself off as Miss Gilver, English mistress, of course. Whatever will give her enough time to solve the case and stop the bodies from piling up at the school. But the question is, will her plan work?
The seventh (and favorited) installment in the Dandy Gilver mystery series, it's also been optioned by the BBC for television. We'll have to wait and see what the BBC chooses to do with it; but until then, the book is available for purchase through Fable, and we will begin reading together on the app on the 17th. Let's kick off the summer together!
